Founded in 2019, Everett Ship Repair offers vast ship repair capabilities from its facility in Everett, Washington, including repair, maintenance, and conversion services for any type of commercial vessels, with focus on commercial workboats and passenger vessels. ESR strives to continuously improve our repair and construction methods into efficient and reliable processes. We seek tradesmen who share that view, value learning opportunities, and desire an opportunity to apply their skills in our progressive environment ESR is seeking an experienced Metals Lead who will oversee and coordinate the efforts of the Journeymen and Apprentice welder trade workers with specific emphasis on metering Apprentices. The Meals Lead will have responsibility to recommend HR actions related to hiring, firing, or execution of formal discipline and executing as appropriate. Reporting to the Swing Shift Supervisor, this role will be responsible for planning and coordinating all labor, materials, tools, and equipment, change orders and safety documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to performing full range of journeyman duties, executes daily work assignments and expectations for assigned team and/or task/ project. Assigns tasks, assures completion of tasks within deadlines, resolves conflicts, and motivates optimal performance from department trades and support staff. Sets daily and/or weekly goals and objectives for assigned crew members Responsible for general oversight of personnel to include time reporting Reviews the quality of work of assigned employees and reports instances of deficiencies Observes his or her workers job performance and identifies any areas that require training and assists in providing needed training and answers questions. Connects with team and promotes an environment that promotes collaboration and teamwork Works with QC to identify defects that require repair or rework. Provides input into performance reviews for employees as well as raises concerns that might warrant more formal investigation or disciplinary action. Ensures employees under his or her supervision are properly directed and have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings to accomplish assigned work Provide on-the-job training to those individuals under his/her supervision Ensures that employees on his or her crew are qualified to perform their work Participates and contributes to toolbox meetings and communicates safety concerns, work scope, plans, and schedules Ensures through personal inspections that correct construction procedures are followed and work is following the plans and specifications. Points out deficiencies, explains and takes corrective action as needed Accurately and in a timely manner, updates project progress Handles planning including specifying staffing needs and scheduling, tools, materials, equipment, and subcontracts. Assists in administration of the Apprentice Fitting, Welding and Machinist apprenticeship programs. Prepares for and executes effective shift change to assure clarity of work progress, effective communication of task and project status, and effective staging to assure efficient and seamless transition and progress toward applicable milestones. Models standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for the members of his/her crew. Ensure through personal inspection and power of example that correct construction procedures are followed and work is following the plans and specifications. Points out deficiencies, explains and recommends corrective action as needed. Demonstrate and model behavior supportive of the direction the company is headed; provides meaningful and constructive suggestions for practice improvements; acts as and is a recognized leader among peers. May attend daily production meetings and coordinates assignments with other shops.
REQUIREMENTS 4
years related experience or 8 years related ship building/ship repair experience Must be a highly qualified journeyman Knowledge on ship construction and ability to troubleshoot issues in real time Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills Ability to read and understand and execute from drawing Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility and yard and be able to go aboard marine vessels, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Skill in directing and coordinating the work of others; act as a leader and be recognized as such by others; coach and motivate the work of others; and resolve conflicts. Ability/proficiency with personal computer and system/platform applications such as word processing and spreadsheets Consistently exhibits positive attitude; Is calm and mature in all situations, and demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to adjust in dynamic work and business environment Takes ownership and accountability for assuring his or her own performance and results and that of his teams meets Company Standards Demonstrates ability and willingness to learn new skills and processes and master increasingly and challenging assignments. Demonstrates technical proficiency, including ability to perform any task the journeyman might be assigned, and in most cases, has any certifications to perform the tasks they are leading
ADDITIONAL THINGS THAT WOULD DISTINGUISH YOU
Previous experience as a Lead in a metal trade (Machinists, Fitters, or Welders). Knowledge of ship construction, range of shipboard systems, equipment, and their operations.
