Overview:
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment and machinery used in loading, unloading, and transporting cargo and materials at the port. This position ensures the safe and efficient handling of goods while adhering to port regulations, safety procedures, and operational guidelines.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment; including but not limited to; excavators, front end loaders, cranes, and industrial forklifts; to ensure efficient loading and unloading of bulk materials. Bulk materials may include sulfur, gravel, gypsum, potash, slag, and more. Some bulk material may require specialized PPE for operators. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain maritime equipment such as cranes, excavators, and loaders for the efficient handling of bulk cargo movement. Conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards. Coordinate with terminal staff to optimize cargo flow and minimize delays. Load and unload bulk materials from vessels, trucks, and trains, ensuring proper handling and storage. Follow safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Maintain accurate records of cargo movements and equipment usage. Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs as needed. Assist in training new operators and other terminal staff on equipment operation and safety procedures.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or training preferred. Ability to obtain a TWIC card required Proven experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a maritime or bulk terminal environment. Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to maritime operations. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift heavy loads and perform physically demanding tasks. Comfortable working in varying weather conditions and on elevated platforms.
