Job Description

Wastewater Supervisor South Salt Lake, UT, USA 34.75-52.56 per hour Hourly Full Time Affordable medical, dental, vision, accident and critical illness insurance. $50k city-paid life insurance; $100 monthly benefit toward insurance premiums, HSA, or put into a 401K if no benefits selected. Paid sick and vacation leave, 13 paid holidays. Utah State Retirement Systems pension 401K with 3% city match. The wastewater supervisor works under the direction of the CIP/Accreditation Manager. The Wastewater Supervisor provides comprehensive administration for the wastewater maintenance functions for the City. Employees in this class have thorough knowledge of principles of wastewater collection and can participate in all aspects of work under charge. Position is responsible for successfully managing the wastewater operations, all associated personnel, contractors, the financial responsibilities inherent in the work, and the equipment, materials, and supplies utilized by the division. __________________________________________________________________________________________
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Administers the daily wastewater operations and ensures adherence to City and regulatory practices in all division activities. 2. Directs personnel functions and activities of the division, i.e., assignment, scheduling, hiring and discipline. 3. Responds to customer and city administration's concerns and inquiries concerning all aspects of wastewater operations. 4. Confers with local, state and federal agencies on regulations and requirements for the division. 5. Prepares and files regulatory reports, ensuring reporting deadlines are adhered to and division activities comply with established rules and regulations. 6. Interprets, updates, and maintains utility plans, and develops summarizations of all work in progress. Enters data in the department's work order and asset management software system and utilizes mobile data technology. 7. Responds to emergencies and assists personnel and contractors under charge in all facets of tasks performed as needed. 8. Operates various types of heavy equipment such as front-end loader, Vactor, backhoe, utility trailers, bobtail dump truck, etc.; transports materials and equipment; participates in various seasonal projects such as snow removal; operates and maintains trencher, Vactor, camera truck; operates a variety of types of small and light equipment; performs routine and regular maintenance on equipment to assure efficiency and safety. __________________________________________________________________________________________
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
AND CERTIFICATIONS
? Graduation from high school; plus (1) years of specialized training provided through professionally sponsored workshops, technical school or vocational studies. ? Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the construction and maintenance of various public works operations. ? Must be certified by the State of Utah as a Wastewater Collections III Operator or higher. ? Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A (including Tanker and Hazardous Materials endorsements) or obtain one prior to employment.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of equipment operation and safety measures; knowledge of wastewater System operation, repair, construction, and maintenance procedures. Skilled in the operation associated equipment. 2. Ability to develop, organize, and supervise the work of wastewater operations and maintenance personnel and contractors. 3. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to use independent judgment; ability to supervise and motivate personnel. 4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the City's management team, and the public. 5. Ability to establish short and long-term operational goals and priorities. 6. Must be willing to work on-call and to respond to emergency situations after hours, weekends and holidays. __________________________________________________________________________________________
