Hydraulic Technician Job Description The primary purpose of this position is to perform duties involving the assembly, operation, maintenance, and repair of Aircraft Arresting Systems, such as the BAK-12, which provide fighter aircraft safety during aborted take-offs or in-flight emergencies. This is to safeguard pilots and prevent costly fighter aircraft repair or replacement. This position is located on-site at our Logan Township, NJ facility but has the potential for travel to military air bases both domestically and internationally. Responsibilities Assemble, operate, maintain, and repair system components including hydraulic systems, diesel engines, rewind systems, pendant cables, and runway edge sheaves. Focus on the assembly of systems and their ancillary equipment using assembly drawings. Evaluate assembly issues to determine root cause and corrective actions. Perform periodic maintenance inspections according to appropriate Standard Operating Manuals. Inspect mechanical and structural system integrity and monitor operational testing of aircraft arresting gear systems as per contract technical specifications. Compare operational functioning with contract specifications to ensure serviceability and safety. Test questionable components using standard instruments and gauges. Monitor operational testing of equipment and assist in identifying causes of malfunctioning equipment. Prepare reports of findings to facilitate modifications. Perform other field service-related duties and responsibilities as required. Essential Skills Experience with diesel engines and hydraulic systems. Proficiency in hydraulic assembly and mechanical assembly. Ability to work from assembly drawings. Experience in repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. High School degree or equivalent. Ability to read technical drawings for assembly operations. Knowledge of construction/installation processes and practices. Good interpersonal skills to advise others and work effectively in groups. Basic computer operation skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to read and understand safety rules and standard procedures. Three years of experience in Aircraft Arresting Systems (BAK-12, Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems, or similar systems) or in Diesel Engine/Hydraulic Mechanic roles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Completion of an approved DoD school (USAF 3E0x2, USMC 7011, USNA101 ABE
) or equivalent commercial school focused on Aircraft Arresting Systems is recommended. Proven ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously. Experience in advising and coordinating work groups. Capability to communicate work instructions and process information effectively. Ability to obtain an airfield driver's license. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position requires work in a heavy industrial setting with exposure to noise and other environmental elements that may be considered disagreeable. Overtime may be required, leading to unscheduled late hours, weekend work, and 'on-call' duty. You must maintain a valid state driver's license and be capable of obtaining an airfield driver's license. The role involves working in extreme weather conditions for moderate periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods. You must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, following all safety procedures to avoid injury.
