$70,000 - $85,500/yr, depending on experience.Position Overview:
The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for performing operational and technical human resource support tasks to include, but not necessarily limited to: staffing, and new employee orientation; collaboration with Finance and Payroll as necessary to anticipate, coordinate and complete payroll transactions, assisting employees and public with personnel information; inputting and maintaining employee information in HRIS (Skyward); maintaining employee personnel records; administering employee benefit elections; interpreting and applying the terms and conditions of employee contracts as well as HR policies and procedures. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental job duties: Staffing and Recruitment Support Assist in posting job vacancies and coordinating recruitment efforts. Review applications and coordinate interview scheduling. Conduct pre-employment checks such as background screenings and reference verifications. Support hiring managers throughout the recruitment and selection process. New Employee Orientation Plan, coordinate, and facilitate new employee onboarding sessions. Provide employees with necessary documentation and training for compliance with company policies. Ensure new hires are introduced to organizational culture, benefits, and key resources. Payroll Coordination Collaborate with Finance and Payroll to anticipate, coordinate, and complete payroll transactions. Audit and validate payroll data to ensure accurate payment processing. Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees. Employee Support and Personnel Information Respond to employee and public inquiries related to personnel matters. Provide guidance to employees on HR policies, procedures, and benefits. Interpret and apply employee contracts and company policies as necessary. HRIS Management (Skyward) Input and maintain accurate employee data in the HRIS system. Generate reports and analyze HRIS data to support decision-making. Troubleshoot and resolve HRIS-related issues as they arise. Personnel Records Management Maintain and update employee personnel files in compliance with legal and organizational standards. Ensure the confidentiality and security of employee records. Archive and dispose of records in line with retention policies. Benefits Facilitate employee benefit enrollment, changes, and terminations. Provide employees with guidance on benefit options and eligibility. Coordinate with benefit providers to address employee needs and resolve issues. Medical Leave Administer leave requests in accordance with applicable policies and laws, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other medical leave programs. Serve as a point of contact for employees requesting leave, providing guidance on eligibility and process. Track and maintain accurate records of medical leave, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations. Coordinate with managers to plan for staffing needs during employee absences. Workers' Compensation and ADA Compliance Support the administration of workers' compensation claims, including filing and coordinating with insurance providers. Ensure timely communication and follow-up with employees and medical providers regarding claims. Provide support in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by coordinating reasonable accommodations for employees. Partner with managers to identify and implement appropriate solutions for workplace accessibility and accommodations. Policy and Contract Interpretation Interpret and communicate terms and conditions of employee contracts. Ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, and applicable labor laws. Provide managers and employees with clarification on policies when necessary. General HR Support Assist in the development and implementation of HR initiatives and systems. Support HR-related projects as assigned by leadership. Provide backup support for other HR team members as needed. Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS
(Specific training or job experience required before appointment) Required High School diploma or GED Three years of progressive responsibility and experience in human resources or related fields. High degree of aptitude and proficiency with computer based accounting systems and with personal computer applications such as Word, Excel, etc. Ability to understand and implement IRS rules, MN Statutes, and other legal regulations pertaining to employee benefits, compensation, and data. Preferred Associate degree or equivalent post-high school coursework in human resources or closely related field Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field Knowledge of Skyward and Applitrack. Knowledge of state laws, rules, administrative procedures, policies, bargaining agreements Experience in a public school or public organization setting.Skills:
Proficiency in HRIS platforms (e.g., Skyward) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Knowledge of payroll processes, benefits administration, and labor laws (FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation). Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with employees, management, and external partners. Able to think creatively, efficiently, and innovatively. High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information. Exceptional time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records and processing transactions. Analytical skills to interpret HRIS data and generate meaningful reports. Customer service orientation with the ability to empathize and assist employees effectively. Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
