Purpose Operate University-owned compactor trucks to collect and transport solid waste, recycling, and compost materials on the University of Texas at Austin campus and other University locations. Responsibilities Drive a disposal truck to safely load and unload solid waste, recycling, and compost materials from various campus locations and deliver the materials to the designated landfill location. Perform and document pre/post trip vehicle inspections daily. Adhere to all Federal, State, University, and environmental safety regulations. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task and promote and exercise excellent safety habits. Operate hydraulic lifts, compactors, and other waste collection equipment safely to ensure efficient loading and unloading of containers and bins. Document and log collection weights, disposal locations, vehicle maintenance, and incident reports in compliance with University policies. Complete basic vehicle maintenance tasks daily, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and lubrication of equipment. Advise supervisor of needed repairs or safety concerns. Follow written and verbal instructions. Maintain professionalism in interactions with UT personnel, students, clients, and stakeholders. Deliver, place, and retrieve solid waste containers. Sweep trash and recycling areas daily to ensure cleanliness of the area. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Possess and maintain a valid Texas Class B CDL. Three years of experience as a CDL driver. Qualify for and maintain a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC). Ability to demonstrate sound reasoning and adherence to safety policies and procedures. Exhibit excellence in customer service. Possess basic computer skills and working knowledge of smartphones and applications. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications More than three years experience as a CDL driver operating waste management equipment and handling recycled materials. Two years or more of customer service experience. Advanced computer skills. Driving Required This job requires a class "B" CDL operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
