POSITION SUMMARY

Mig and/or Tig weld aluminum and stainless steel in accordance with AWS standards efficiently and safely to produce whole or partially finished products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Mig and/or Tig weld aluminum in accordance with AWS standards D1.2 and D17.1 processes GMAW/position flat, horizontal, and overhead 4g. Tig weld stainless steel in accordance with AWS standard D17.1. Follow at all times proper safety procedures and wear proper safety equipment as they relate to the work being performed. Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material. Determine the required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of welding techniques. Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify Shop Manager. Measure work items with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

Clamp, tack-weld, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter. Communicate to Shop Manager any injury, unsafe act or condition, or failure of equipment. Maintain the work area in neat and clean condition and ensure that materials and tools are returned to proper storage. Dispose of waste materials after completion of work assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED preferred. 1-2 years work related experience or vocational training preferred.
