Sewall's Point is a small municipality located in Martin County, Florida. The Town, with 2,000 residents, maintains a police force of 10 sworn officers, including the Chief of Police and one civilian. The Department is a valued part of the Sewall's Point community, and is seeking three community-minded officers to join its ranks. Benefits include 80 hours of annual leave, health/dental/vision/life insurance, EAP, mileage payment monthly ($300 month in lieu of take home car), 11 holidays, 2 personal days, 401 Retirement plan with 15% of base salary contributed by the Town- no match required, optional contributions to a 457 Plan, college tuition reimbursement, and annual boot allowance. Officers currently work 12 hour shifts.
Minimum Requirements :
Must have successfully completed the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Equivalency of Training from a Florida Law Enforcement Academy and Successfully pass the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification Exam. If currently enrolled in a Florida Law Enforcment Academy, you must graduate within 45 days of application. US Citizen At least 19 years of age, High school diploma or GED (College degree preferred), Valid driver's license and good driving history, Prior law enforcement is preferred but not required Have not been convicted of any felony or of any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces Have good moral character No marijuana use within the last year. No other illegal drug use within the last three years. Good work history Good physical condition Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation including polygraph, medical, drug screen and psychological examinations. Officers perform a variety of duties and tasks and are responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws/regulations. This position is essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency. The duties of a police officer are to enforce laws and ordinances related to protecting the general public and property to enhance the quality of life for the citizens and visitors within the Town. The police officer is expected to provide law enforcement protection and services, including conducting criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, and general police services. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the Town. Experience:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university preferred. If served in the military, an honorable discharge is required. Must have successfully completed the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Equivalency of Training from a Florida Law Enforcement Academy and successfully pass the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification Exam. Valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record.
