- The Accounting Technician position is integral to providing fiscal services within the General Accounting and Financial Management Section, with a primary focus on investigating and resolving outstanding medical payment obligations for Disability Determination Services (DDS).
NOTE TO CANDIDATES
A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems. Following the interview process, the recommended candidate will be contacted and asked to submit to an initial pre-screen Federal background investigation through the SSA Office of Human Resources (DCHR). If the pre-screen is favorable, a conditional job offer can be extended. After a new hire's start date, continued employment is still contingent upon full suitability clearance through the DCHR, which entails submitting to a detailed security questionnaire and a potential interview from a DCHR investigator that may include the need for a medical release from the individual during the investigative process. At any point during employment, a final determination by the SSA that the employee does not have a favorable suitability determination will lead to termination of employment.Key Duties Include:
Audit and approve invoices through the North Carolina Processing System (NCPS), ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. Investigate and resolve any outstanding medical payment obligations for DDS, ensuring timely and accurate payments. Process returned and refunded medical checks. Maintain and update vendor files to ensure accurate payment processing. Provide backup support for Medical Evidence of Records (MER) and Consultative Examination (CE) positions. Manage incoming DDS mail and log return and refund checks into Excel spreadsheets. Communicate with DDS case processing units, medical providers, and the general public to resolve issues with MER and CE invoices. Assist in answering phone calls and handling correspondence with vendors, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Work with supervisors and management to address any outstanding issues that could impact the unit's performance. Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring efficient operations of the financial team.
