Job Description
Bookkeeper Job Responsibilities:
The overall role of the Bookkeeper is to provide support to the Chief Operations Office and the Director of Finance and Operations and the Finance Department of Rhema by overseeing and managing financial data to ensure its accuracy and compliance.Essential Job Duties:
Recording Financial Transactions:
Accurately record all income, expenses, and financial activities using accounting software.Maintaining General Ledger:
Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger by reconciling accounts and correcting discrepancies.Preparing Financial Statements:
Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.Payroll Processing:
Manage payroll operations, including calculating wages, withholding taxes, and issuing payments. Process Accounts Payable Prepares payment vouchers of bills and other obligations of the church and its related ministries Prepare vouchers to submit to COO & Finance Director for approval and signature Contact vendors about outstanding invoices as necessary Reconcile and post receipts to credit card bills Performs auditing functions of contribution data quarterly Ensure the accuracy of all data entered Ensure all items have been captured Reconcile online giving transactionsBank Reconciliation:
Reconcile bank statements with internal records to identify and resolve discrepancies.Budget Monitoring:
Assist in tracking budgets, identifying variances, and recommending adjustments. Prepare budgetary charts, tables, PowerPoint presentations for church leadership and Board of Directors, etc.Compliance and Audits:
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and assist with internal or external audits. Monitor and replaceOhio & Federal Law Posters Updates Expense Management:
Monitor expenses and recommend cost-saving measures.Tax Preparation:
Collaborate with accountants to prepare and file tax returns accurately and on time.Emergency Assistance Reporting:
Maintain Emergency Assistance Report Post new entries Submit monthly reports to COO & Finance Director Required Skills and Experience Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance strongly preferred. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or FreshBooks. Familiarity with Sage Accounting is also helpful. Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and practices. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for vendor and staff interactions. Multitasking skills for managing multiple accounts and projects simultaneously. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including creating pivot tables and using formulas.Other Basic Responsibilities/Environment:
