Job Title:
Refrigeration Technician (Ammonia Refrigeration Focus)

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Refrigeration Technician to join our team. This hands-on role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The primary responsibility is to operate and maintain the ammonia refrigeration system and other critical utility systems to support production in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate, monitor, and maintain ammonia refrigeration and utility systems, including boilers, steam, compressed air, condensate return, glycol, brine, HVAC, fire systems, wastewater, and natural gas. Conduct preventive and reactive maintenance across facility equipment to ensure continuous production operations. Perform IIAR Bulletin 109 inspections and Maintenance Tracking Sheet (MTS) checks for ammonia system integrity. Respond promptly to utility-related service calls; troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues. Maintain GMP standards across all maintenance areas; sanitize tools and parts before entering production zones. Keep accurate records of repairs, inspections, and parts usage. Monitor production equipment performance and proactively address inefficiencies. Ensure compliance with all food safety and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to meet daily and long-term operational targets.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required. 3+ years of experience with ammonia refrigeration systems strongly preferred. 3+ years of experience with boilers and compressed air systems preferred. RETA CIRO or CARO certification highly desired; Hazmat certification a plus. Strong troubleshooting ability with mechanical, electrical, and control systems. Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and 480V 3-phase power systems. Welding experience (MIG, Stick, some TIG) a plus. Able to interpret blueprints and schematics; basic PC skills for record keeping and reporting. Must be 18+ years old with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
