CityofTybee.org to be considered •The Firefighter protects the lives and property of citizens through activities associated with fire prevention, rescue, firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency medical incidents, water rescue incidents and participates in the training and maintenance activities necessary to achieve all mastery of skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responds promptly to fire alarms and other emergency calls when on duty and to major incidents when notified while on duty. Drives fire apparatus and operates pump and other equipment associated with firefighting, rescue, salvage, and maintenance. Enters burning buildings to accomplish extinguishment and/or rescue. Advances charged and uncharged hose lines and applies extinguishing agents to fires. Protects property from unnecessary smoke and water damage by using salvage covers, positive pressure ventilation fans, and water vacuum. Positions and climbs ladders to gain access to upper floors or to accomplish rescue. Climbs, crawls, and runs as necessary to accomplish fire extinguishment, rescue, and personal safety. Carries or moves heavy equipment and/or objects necessary to accomplish fire extinguishment or rescue. Communicates verbally by means of two-way radio as well as person-to-person and in writing through completion of various records, reports, memos, and letters. Provides emergency medical service to fire or accident victims and assists the local emergency medical service provider as necessary or when requested. Maintains apparatus, equipment, buildings, and grounds. Participates in all phases of training necessary to acquire the knowledge and skills required of the position. Conducts studies to learn locations of City streets and addresses, hydrants, standpipes, and physical features of property within a district. Represents the Fire Department at community meetings and performs blood pressure checks. Assists in training of all Rookie Firefighters and those at Firefighter level. Performs Sergeant Duties when shift Sergeant is off work or will be out on leave. Cleans the station and all communal areas, including restrooms, locker room, kitchen, classroom area, office area, and hallways. Cleans the apparatus bay by removing any trash, debris, or dirt on ground in and around the area. Cleans and inspects equipment on trucks, including starting all gas powered and electric equipment. Cleans the inside compartments and cabs of trucks. Cleans and inspects the exterior of all trucks. Cleans personal gear after use. Replaces any equipment needed in each first aid/medical bag on each truck. Starts all trucks and vehicles and operating pumps to ensure they are running properly prior to use. Refills SCBA air cylinders when needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Serves as lead medic when responding to emergency medical incidents, analyzing and taking command of patient care, with full responsibility for the patient(s) until relieved by proper medical personnel. Administer medical aid at medical emergencies; Providing advance skills approved by the Georgia EMS Office based on level of EMS certification.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent Successful completion of National Incident Management Systems 100 and 700 NPQ Firefighter I NPQ Hazmat (Operations level) Valid CPR Certification Licenses or Certifications - Must be obtained within 12 months (probationary period): Georgia EMT certification/license Georgia State F Class Driver's License. NPQ Firefighter II National (TIM) Training NIMS 200 and 800
In-house Driver Training Program Special Requirements:
Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Attain a total of 240 hours of structural firefighter training (ISO) Advanced Firefighters are assigned to 24/48-hour shifts. CPAT Test Required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of a variety of subjects and skills related to firefighting, rescue, emergency medical service, and hazardous material. Knowledge of City layout and hydrant locations. Knowledge of dispatch procedures/radio communications. Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques. Knowledge of Jet Ski or SARS for water rescue operations. Knowledge of Sergeant duties for when a shift Sergeant is not present or on shift due to leave. Skill in the operation of fire suppression equipment such as hose line advancement, water can, and fire extinguisher usage and operation. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, typewriter, facsimile machine, and copier. Skill in public and interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform water rescues and lifeguarding duties on shift while patrolling the beach. Ability to recognize and evaluate alternatives under emergency conditions and to make decisions independently Ability to operate cascade system to fill SCBA air cylinders.
Pay Range :
$56,837 - 60,029/annually (dependent upon completed certifications at time of hire)
