The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining and operating various systems within our facility. This position requires a strong understanding of industrial maintenance and the ability to work with specialized equipment. The Utility Worker will ensure that all machinery and systems operate efficiently, contributing to the overall productivity of the organization.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING
Failure to obtain or maintain job required qualifications will result in appropriate action consistent with the provision of the Appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement or Personnel Rules. Class I Journey Level, Electrician's License. Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The City of Lansing reserves the right to utilize equivalencies where deemed appropriate with regard to education and experience requirements. High School Diploma or GED and a minimum (5) year period of practical experience under licensed electrician and pass the state exam. Credit may be provided for graduation from or attendance at a recognized training or educational program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of City, State, and National electrical Building Codes; electrical theory and of the occupational hazards and safety precautions used in electrical work. Skill in the use of standard tools, equipment, and testing devices; working with and interpreting blueprints and technical sketches and diagrams; basic computer skills; including keyboard and mouse functions, basic word processing and spreadsheet development skills. Ability to supervise and train others; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and other City employees.
PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the individual through assistance or on their own to walk, stand, climb, lift, carry, push, pull, finger dexterity, twist, turn, bend, stoop, speak, hear, listen, and visual acuity and color vision, eye and hand coordination, the ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and 90 occasional basis.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF POSITION
Work is at the Wastewater Treatment Plant; inside and outside during all weather conditions; subject to extreme cold, sudden temperature changes, high humidity, dust, dirt, offensive odors, some loud noise areas, caustic and hazardous chemicals, possible hazardous atmospheres, must work with raw and partially processed sewage and sludge; around open tanks and mechanical equipment; work in pipe tunnels and confined spaces. Performs wide range of electrical maintenance, repair, and installation duties at the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant and supporting pumping stations. Notifies supervision when additional assistance is needed. Uses a wide range of electrical test equipment to run safety checks and diagnose problems reading information off analog and digital displays to determine presence and strength of electrical current and other needed information. Installs new electrical systems often standing on step-ladders. Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, blueprints, electronic schematics, and other diagrams. Prepares daily reports on maintenance activities. Inspects, maintains, calibrates, and repairs ultra-violet disinfection systems. Operates a wide range of tools and equipment. Operates and performs work from an aerial platform. Completes research and provides price quotes for maintenance parts and repair cost. Provides necessary oversight to subordinates assisting in electrical work. Ensures all safety precautions are followed. Prepare daily reports on maintenance activities. Drives a pick-up truck and other vehicles as assigned.
