Provides certified law enforcement duties for an assigned school campus within the City of Largo. The work includes but is not limited to, campus patrol, crime prevention, crime detection and investigations, and traffic control. The Reserve School Resource Officer (RSRO) program is a community-based, collaborative school policing and law enforcement initiative that provides school campuses with professionals who serve as role models. The RSRO holds the same level of authority and responsibility imparted upon the full-time Law Enforcement Officer, including arrest powers. RSRO authority and responsibility may be limited by Largo Police Department policy and procedure. Work is performed under the direction of a Police Sergeant. The RSRO will be tasked with the general safety of their assigned school with minimal supervision and with considerable latitude in using initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures. The RSRO may be assigned shifts at more than one school during the year based on department needs.WORK SCHEDULE
Up to 1599 hours annually. The RSRO schedule will run concurrently with the student school schedule at the school to which the officer is assigned. This may include hours for activities outside the school's standard school schedule hours.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have separated from all prior law enforcement agencies in good standing; successful completion of pre-employment criminal background check, drug testing, physical examination, and psychological evaluation. As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Eligible for the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certificate issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) at the time of application or current Florida Law Enforcement Officer with firearms certification Five (5) years of experience with a Florida Law Enforcement Agency High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) Sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university (the 60 credit hours will be waived for applicants with at least two years prior law enforcement-related experience or two years active military duty)Valid Driver's License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Largo Police Department policy states officers may not have tattoos below the wrist or above the collar. If you cannot comply with the location of tattoos, you must be willing to have your tattoos removed prior to entering the Field Training Program. Tattoos located on an Officer's legs will be permitted while the officer is in the bicycle uniform, provided they meet the standards imposed by the Chief. No inappropriate or offensive tattoos will be allowed.Facial Hair:
Facial hair is allowed.Piercing Policy:
Visible body piercings are prohibited other than standard ear piercings. Both males and females may wear stud earrings. Work Environment:
15% inside a climate-controlled building; 85% outside, including driving.Physical Requirements:
The essential functions of the job require sitting approximately 30% of work time, standing approximately 40% of work time, and walking approximately 30% of work time, depending on the assignment. The job also requires frequent bending/stooping, grasping, reaching, and lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 15 pounds, with occasional fine manipulations, pulling/pushing, and repetitive motion. On rare occasions, the work requires climbing, crawling, kneeling, and lifting/carrying objects weighing 15 pounds or more.Sensory Requirements:

As mandated by the FDLE, CJSTC, and the Largo Police Department, this position may be subject to additional security clearances due to access to the police department facility or police department's electronic data.Elements of Selection Process:
1. Review of applications for selection of individuals to be interviewed. 2. Schedule those applicants selected to be interviewed. 3. Selected applicants will interview with panel. 4. Conduct criminal background check and driving history record on top applicant. 5. Schedule polygraph for selected top applicant. 6. Schedule physical for top applicant. 7. Verification of three (3) personal references. 8. Schedule applicant to report to sign in at Human Resources and first day of work.Duration of The Process:
The expected duration of the interview selection process for filling the position should take approximately three (3) to four (4) weeks or longer depending on the size of the applicant pool.Agency's Policy On Reapplication:
Applicants who complete the process but are not selected will be placed on an eligibility list for 90 days, and/or may reapply in subsequent hiring processes.
