Power General Description:
Under close supervision from the Line Crew Supervisor, performs unskilled and semi-skilled line work in the construction and maintenance of Murray City power system transmission and distribution lines and substations.
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Special Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver License within six (6) months of appointment.
  • Must be on-call several times per year, for a period of seven (7) days each rotation, as determined by an assignment schedule adopted by the Department; must be on-site within 30 minutes of being called in.
Essential Duties:
  • Assists in framing and erecting overhead and underground lines and structures; assists in stringing conductors; assists in placing rubber and fiber covering on lines.
  • Installs transformers, capacitors, line switches and other related line materials; assists journey lineworkers by lifting various tools to them; lays conduit; pulls and terminates underground high and low voltage wire cable.
  • Performs minor maintenance on company vehicles; checks oil and tires; washes vehicles; makes certain proper equipment is on the trucks and maintained properly.
  • Watches and assists journey lineworker; under close supervision, works with hot lines, as a training experience; assists in after hours trouble shooting and maintenance of lines.
  • Digs trenches; runs backhoes, boom trucks, trenchers, etc.; cleans up after the project has been completed.
  • Responsible for progressing through a very structured and regimented four-year apprentice training program with the required hours of "hands-on" training experience, classroom and correspondence schooling.
  • Performs related duties as required.
