JOB SUMMARY
The job of the Accounting Specialist will perform transaction generation and review of various financial elements/accounts of the district. This individual will assist the Accounting Coordinators and the Director of Finance with general ledger management, account reconciliations, analysis and preparation of various reports. Assuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, federal and state regulations and the district policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or
GED. 1-3
years job re-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility. Targeted job-related education that meets organization's prerequisite requirements. Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Communication Skills:
Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with various stakeholders.
Data Entry Skills:
Proficiency in entering and managing financial data.
Software Proficiency:
Familiar with accounting software, excel spreadsheets, ten-key, word and other relevant tools.
Analytical Skills:
Perform analysis of financial data, draw meaningful conclusions and prepare reports.
Problem Solving Skills:
Ability to identify and resolve account discrepancies and issues Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to organize and prioritize work and adhere to established deadlines. Ability to relate to children, staff and public in a positive manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
: Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following: Financial record keeping, maintaining accurate and up to date bank account reconciliations. Responsible for the treasury management/banking operations of the district. Tasks include deposits, returned checks and account reconciliations. Prepare and post journal entries including payroll and expense adjustments and internal chargebacks. Receive, record and report weekly revenue deposits including file transfers to the county treasurer. Reconcile, prepare and post monthly FS and Community Education revenue checks. Responsible for the revenue/accounts receivable/billing functions of the district. Tasks include invoicing, collections and revenue recognition. Maintain and approve student activities club transactions, including training to school staff. Assist with preparation of board reports, fiscal year end and annual financial reports. Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in completions of their work activities. Respond to inquiries from staff for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required. Assist with outside auditors providing requested supporting documentation to complete audit. Approval of account codes for department and schools purchasing requisitions and PARs. Maintain knowledge of the Arizona Uniform System of Financial Records and relevant Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Attend professional development opportunities to stay abreast of federal/state and district regulations. Contribute to the team by accomplishing additional duties as assigned.
